Perchloric and Aggressive Acid Scrubber Fume Cupboard

Perchloric acid, a powerful oxidising agent, is notorious for forming readily flammable or explosive compounds, especially when it comes into contact with organic material, including wood, or some metals.
Over the years, various materials of construction have been advocated, including bare concrete, stainless steel and polypropylene or polyvinyl-chloride.
BS 7258 Part 3 stresses that wood must not be used in the construction of fume cupboards for Perchloric acid work. Such fume cupboards are usually fitted with a wash-down system in the duct work and for the back of the fume cupboard, also, a fume scrubber may be attached immediately above or behind the fume cupboard.
