Perchloric Acid

P1550244_rc1Perchloric acid, a powerful oxidising agent, is notorious for forming readily flammable or explosive compounds, especially when it comes into contact with organic material, including wood, or some metals.

Over the years, various materials of construction have been advocated, including bare concrete, stainless steel and polypropylene or polyvinylchloride.

BS 7258 Part 3 stresses that wood must not be used in the construction of fumecupboards for Perchloric acid work. Such fumecupboards are usually fitted with a washdown system in the ductwork and for the back of the fumecupboard, also, a fume scrubber may be attached immediately above or behind the fumecupboard.
At Holliday Fielding Hocking we manufacture all our fumecupboards, for use with perchloric acid, with the above in mind.

You can rest assured that ANY fumecupboard purchased from us can be used for many years in your work with perchloric acid.
